[ARCHIVED] City and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to Host River Restoration Open House on August 15

USACE Open House Newsflash

On Tuesday, August 15, at 6 p.m., the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and City of River Falls will host an open house at River Falls Public Library (140 Union St.) to obtain public input on a potential environmental restoration project, led by the Corps, on the Kinnickinnic River.

There are currently two dams on the Kinnickinnic River: Junction Falls and Powell Falls. The river, which is a Class 1 trout stream, is highly degraded because of impoundments. The removal of Powell Falls Dam, and possibly Junction Falls Dam, presents a unique opportunity for the Corps to restore the river to its natural setting.

At the open house, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials will provide a detailed overview of the feasibility study they are currently conducting for the project. The Corps must conduct a feasibility study to evaluate costs, benefits, and whether the project is in the federal interest before it may proceed. City and Corps staff will be available to answer questions and discuss project details with the community.
