The River Falls Municipal Utilities Water Department’s Annual City hydrant flushing will start on Monday, May 15th and continue throughout the end of June.
Flushing fire hydrants is an important preventative DNR required maintenance activity to ensure clean and safe drinking water, help maintain the integrity of the water system, and to verify good operation of each hydrant for our fire department.
While flushing hydrants near your home, you may experience slight varying water pressure and temporary discoloration of the water. This discoloration is harmless, and generally consists of precipitates (oxidized iron) which do not affect the safety of water consumption. Please run cold water from your faucets inside your home until the water is clear (run the tap closest to your water meter).
Be sure to check water clarity before doing laundry. We will give regular updates on Facebook to let you what general locations we will be flushing in over the next several weeks.
