Falcon Center Grand Opening Takes Place September 21

Ribbon Cutting at UWRF Falcon Center Grand Opening

After nearly two decades of effort, the largest building project in the 140-year history of UW- River Falls  officially opened its doors Thursday, September 21, with a grand opening celebration. The Falcon Center for Health, Education and Wellness will provide outstanding spaces for academics, wellness, recreation and athletics. The complex is located at 1110 S. Main Street.

A comprehensive indoor and outdoor facility, the Falcon Center features a 15,000 square foot fitness center, four classrooms, a state-of-the-art performance lab, three fitness studios, and an indoor climbing center. The building also houses NCAA competition venues for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s ice hockey, volleyball and more.

A concerted planning effort for a replacement facility occurred in 1999 involving UW-River Falls, UW-System Administration, and the Division of State Facilities staff. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Falcon Center took place in May 2014 and work was broken into site and building phases. Renovations to existing facilities including Ramer Field and David Smith Stadium, W. H. Hunt Ice Arena, and the Robert P. Knowles Fieldhouse were all completed as part of the project. The Fitness Center opened for campus and community use in January 2017.
